From April 17 to 20, 2023, Professor Ye Kai, Head of Single-cell Platform and Digital Medicine Institute of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), led a team of heads of Department of Science and Technology, Department of Endocrinology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Med-X Research Institute and discipline representatives to deliver an academic exchange visit to Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in the Netherlands, aiming to strengthen friendly cooperation between LUMC and the FAH in teaching, scientific research and student exchange, and conduct overseas talent recruitment publicity activities in LUMC.
On April 17, Professor Ye Kai and his delegates visited Faculty of Science of Leiden University, and exchanged ideas with Professor Eric Eliel, Dean of Graduate School, Professor Marcello IIo Bonsangue, Chairman of PhD Joint Project/School of Computer Science, and Professor Roland Merks, Supervisor of PhD Joint Project, respectively. Bilateral sides introduced the development status of respective faculties, and reached an intention of cooperation upon expanding two-way communication between teachers and students and deepening scientific research cooperation by using the alumni influence of two universities.
On April 18, Professor Ye Kai led his team to deliver in-depth exchanges with Professor Peter ten Dijke, Professor Douwe Breimer, Professor David Baker and Professor Patrick Rensen and other experts and scholars at LUMC. Representatives from the FAH reported their respective research fields, captivating extensive interests and in-depth exchanges among participating scholars. Bilateral sides also conducted in-depth discussion and reached an intention of cooperation upon promoting the implementation of academic exchange agreements and further launching scientific research collaboration.

On April 19, Department of Human Resources of XJTU organized overseas talent recruitment publicity activities, introduced the advantages of the FAH in scientific research, medical treatment and teaching to Chinese students studying and working in Leiden University, and conducted comprehensive and in-depth communication with talents from multiples disciplines. More than 50 postdoctoral and doctoral graduates attended the publicity activities, and many of them expressed their willingness to work in the hospital.

On April 20, Professor Pancras Hogendoorn, Dean of LUMC/Member of Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences hosted and chaired the welcoming dinner, and Professor Douwe Breimer, former dean of Leiden University/Member of Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences, Professor Peter ten Dijke, Professor David Baker and Professor Patrick Rensen and other scholars also attended the welcoming dinner.
Dean Pancras Hogendoorn warmly welcomed students from XJTU to conduct academic exchange and study in LUMC, hoping to send students from the Netherlands to XJTU for academic exchange and study. He also expected to constantly innovate cooperation modes and deepen the areas of cooperation between bilateral sides by promoting mutual collaboration in student exchange program, summer program and academic seminar, etc.
