On April 22, 2023, National Conference of Specialty Capacity Building for Cognitive Impairment was held in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. During the conference, the certificate ceremony of the first batch of "National Core Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Cognitive Impairment" was launched. Through application, defense and expert review, Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) became one of the first-batch 23 "National Core Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Cognitive Impairment" in China. Guo Xiaojuan from Department of Neurology received the certificate on behalf of the department.

To actively respond to the aging population and rapid increase in the quantity of dementia patients in China, a standardized diagnosis and treatment system was gradually established for National Core Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Cognitive Impairment, Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Cognitive Impairment and Prevention and Treatment Center for Memory Impairment, aiming to satisfy the requirement of prevention and treatment of cognitive impairment. In 2021, National Health Commission Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center launched a nationwide capacity-building project for cognitive impairment. Hundreds of cognitive impairment centers in China signed up, and finally 23 centers were approved as National Core Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Cognitive Impairment.

Cognitive impairment has been an important sub-specialty of Department of Neurology in FAH. In 2007, Department of Neurology became the first to establish Memory Outpatient in China. In 2012, Department of Neurology was approved as the first batch of Memory Disorder Demonstration Outpatient in China, and approved as National Memory Outpatient Training Base in 2018. In 2019, Department of Neurology initiated the establishment of HHC Cognitive College in Northwest China and Shaanxi Provincial Consultation Center for Severe and Refractory Cases of Cognitive Impairment. In 2022, Department of Neurology cooperated with Health Management Center in FAH to carry out early screening of dementia. In 2023, it became "National Training Base for Diagnosis and Treatment of Cognitive Impairment". The hospital has obtained remarkable achievement in cognitive impairment and received widespread recognition from the peers nationwide.

The research team of diagnosis and treatment of cognitive impairment from Department of Neurology will establish a collaborative quality control management system for the work among different centers, enhance the specialty capability of professional practitioners in cognitive impairment, strengthen scientific research cooperation among cognitive impairment centers in this region, promote clinical application of innovative technologies for cognitive impairment diseases, establish a referral and consultation system, provide support for clinical work among cognitive impairment centers in this region and offer effective treatment and intervention regimens and long-term follow-up management for patients, thereby concretely realizing long-term training of professional practitioners and long-term management of specialized diseases.
