The Focus in Surgery (FIS 2023) was held in Xi 'an from April 14 to 16, 2023. The conference features the latest progress, significant research and clinical practice in the field of general surgery, focusing on the hot spots of clinical diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary, pancreatic and spleen, gastrointestinal, breast diseases, hernia and abdominal wall surgery, and weight loss and metabolic surgery.
Professor Liu Chang, Executive Chairman of the conference and Party Secretary of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), chaired the conference. Professor Lyu Yi, Co-executive Chairman of the conference, Vice President of XJTU and President of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of XJTU, Professor Zhang Zhongtao, Executive Chairman of the conference and Vice President of Beijing Friendship Hospital, and Wei Junmin, President and Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Medical Association Publishing House delivered speeches, respectively.
During the opening ceremony, the release ceremony of Clinical Evidence-based Guidelines for Prevention and Treatment of Early Digestive Tract Cancer was held. In the first part of academic session, Professor Chen Zhaolong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorary President of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and a prestigious expert in liver transplantation and liver surgery, delivered an intriguing presentation entitled "History and Current Status of Living Donor Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma". Professor Zhang Zhongtao shared a lecture entitled "From COLOR III to COLOR IV: Experience and Thinking of Chinese Colorectal Surgeons Participating in and Organizing International Multicenter Research"; Professor Lyu Yi, Deputy Head of Surgery Group of Chinese Society of Surgery of Chinese Medical Association, gave an intriguing speech entitled "Advances in Magnet-assisted Surgery". Professor Liu Yinhua from Peking University First Hospital, Standing Committee Member of Chinese Society of Surgery of Chinese Medical Association and Head of Breast Surgery Group, contributed a report entitled Development of Breast Surgery Specialty in Chinese Society of Surgery of Chinese Medical Association in Recent 20 Years.
In the second part of academic session, Professor Ren Jianan, Founder and Executive Chairman of the conference, Standing Committee Member of Chinese Society of Surgery of Chinese Medical Association, Head of Infection and Critical Care Medicine Group, gave a report entitled Theory and Technology of Open Abdominal Wound Protection. Professor Gu Jin from Beijing Cancer Hospital, Chairman of the 9th Committee of Chinese Society of Oncology of Chinese Medical Association, Deputy Head of Colorectal Surgery Group of Chinese Society of Surgery of Chinese Medical Association delivered a special report entitled "Remain True to the Original Aspiration, Make the Best of You". Professor Chen Jie, Deputy Head of Hernia and Abdominal Surgery Group of Chinese Society of Surgery of Chinese Medical Association and Peking University People's Hospital, shared Development and Prospect of Hernia and Abdominal Surgery in China.
The conference consists of 17 sessions, including liver surgery, biliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, colorectal surgery and breast surgery sessions, etc. More than 350 top-notched experts and scholars in general surgery were invited to share their academic knowledge. Over 1,000 physicians nationwide participated in the academic exchange.
