On June 29, 2017, as invited by Professor Zhang Guanjun, Director of the Department of Pathology, Professor Holger Moch of the Department of Pathology, University of Zurich, came to the Department of Pathology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University for a visit and exchange.
Professor Holger Moch, doctor of medicine, serves as Professor and Director of the Department of Pathology, University of Zurich, Chairman of Society of Pathology and Molecular Pathology, signer of Certificate of Pathology and Molecular Pathology, and academician of Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. He is also the chief editor of the 2016 WHOClassification of Tumors of the Urinary System and Male Genital Organs, and a member of Executive Committees of European Society of Pathology and the German Society of Pathology. Professor Moch has made remarkable achievements and profound academic attainments in the field of male reproductive system diseases. He wins wide recognition in the circle of pathology in Germany.
In the morning, Professor Moch, accompanied by Director Zhang Guanjun, Deputy Director Wang Hongyan, associate Professor Gong Huilin of the Department of Pathology, visited the Department of Pathology and made an in-depth exchange with the staffs of the department. In addition, they also read the images and exchanged the views on some cases of urinary system. In the afternoon, Director Zhang Guanjun presided over a meeting, and Professor Moch gave two academic lectures, namely “Interpretation of the 2016 WHO Classification of Tumors of the Urinary System and Male Genital Organs” and “Diagnosis of Renal-Cell Carcinoma-New Discoveries based on Next-Generation Sequencing and Precise Biological Library”. Young physicians and backbone physicians of all departments, all staffs of the Department of Pathology of the hospital and physicians of departments of pathology of the surrounding regional hospitals attended the meeting. At the meeting, Director Zhang expressed warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Professor Moch, and Vice President Wang Maode issued the Certificate of Honorary Professor to Professor Moch. In his academic lectures, Professor Moch elaborated major changes of the new edition of WHO Classification of Tumors of the Urinary System and Male Genital Organs, and explained the changes in details. He described the sample collection, gene sequencing method and interpretation of results from the aspect of molecular biology.
After the meeting, Professor Moch also attended a symposium with the experts and professors of the Department of Pathology of the hospital andDepartment of Pathology ofHealth Science Center, at which, he highly praised and affirmed the work and technique of the Department of Pathology of the hospital, and showed gratitude to our warm reception and patient explanation. He expected that a deeper level of communication could be carried out later. Director Zhang Guanjun expected that both parties could strengthen exchanges and cooperation, to jointly promote and drive the pathological research and development of the hospital.
