From November 26 to 27, 2022, China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) appointed experts to deliver online supervision and assessment of ISO15189 Medical Laboratory for Department of Blood Transfusion of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Lu Changchun, Director of Heilongjiang Blood Center, serves as the leader of assessment team, responsible for examining the management elements of system documents. Xue Caixia, Director of Luoyang Orthopedic-Traumatological Hospital of Henan Province, is in charge of examining the technical elements of system documents.

The first assessment meeting was held at 8:30 am on November 26. Li Hongxia, Director of Medical Department, Ren Jie, Deputy Director of Medical Department and Director of Quality Control Office, related staff from Outpatient Blood Sampling Room, Department of General Affairs, Nursing Department, Network Information Center, State-owned Assets Office and all staff from Department of Blood Transfusion attended the meeting. Director Wang Baoyan of Department of Blood Transfusion reported the general profile of our hospital, the operation of quality management system of Department of Blood Transfusion and how the unqualified items found in the preliminary assessment were resolved to the assessment expert team,etc. After the meeting, the expert team delivered comprehensive on-the-spot in-depth assessment on the quality and capability of blood transfusion laboratory, work flow and staff capability according to CNAS-CL02: Medical Laboratory Quality and Competence Accreditation Criteria and CNAS-CL02-A001: Application Instructions for Accreditation Criteria for Medical Laboratory Quality and Competence. On the afternoon of November 26, medical staff from relevant clinical departments attended an online meeting. Experts made comprehensive assessment of the quality system connotation construction and technical service capability of Department of Blood Transfusion by watching videos of blood sample collection and inspection process by Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Department of Hematology and Department of Nephrology.

On the afternoon of November 27, the last meeting was held. Two assessment experts recognized the achievements of Department of Blood Transfusion in discipline development, technical capability, quality system and clinical service,etc. They unanimously agreed that the quality management system of blood transfusion laboratory of our hospital was standardized and effective. Meantime, they also pointed out explicit problems existing in daily work, and proposed the unqualified items, which should be corrected within two months. Finally, Lu Changchun, the leader of assessment team, announced that Department of Blood Transfusion of our hospital successfully passed the supervision and assessment of CNAS ISO15189 medical laboratory.

In July, 2021, Department of Blood Transfusion of our hospital passed the assessment of CNASISO15189 for the first time, becoming the first blood transfusion laboratory that passed CNAS ISO15189 assessment in northwest China.
