Department of Vascular Surgery is a National Key Clinical Specialty of National Health Commission, Stroke Prevention and Screening Base of National Health Commission, Training Base for Carotid Artery Intervention and Training Base for Peripheral Vascular Intervention. It is a professional vascular disease center with the strongest strength and the most complete range of diagnosis and treatment in northwest China. It is also a doctoral and master's degree conferment affiliation. Professor Liu Jianlin, the discipline leader, is a well-known expert in the field of cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular diseases in China. CCTV, Shaanxi and Xi 'an TV stations and other media have delivered special reports. The department employs Professor Qi Guangyu, founder of vascular surgery in Shaanxi province, Professor Lu Shaoying, Feng Jun and Yang Lin and a group of young physicians with doctoral degree. It has more than 30 employees, 5 doctoral and master supervisors. The annual number of outpatient visit is nearly 20,000, and over 3,000 surgical and interventional treatments can be completed each year.
In recent years, the department has undertaken the national "973" and "863" major scientific and technological projects, key research projects in the 12th 5-year Plan, Major Scientific Research Project of the Ministry of Education, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Scientific Research Project of the Ministry of Education and more than 10 scientific research projects in Shaanxi Province, 7 Clinical New Technology Projects of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and over 10 New Medical Technology Projects of the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU. The department has received multiple scientific research achievements at the national, provincial and ministerial levels. Some technologies have been performed for the first time in northwest China and even reached the advanced levels across the globe. In addition, the department enjoys high academic reputation in China. Department of Vascular Surgery is the only Director Affiliation of Grade III Association of Peripheral Blood Vessels of Chinese Medical Association in the northwest region.
Professor Liu Jianlin, the discipline leader, and colleagues have successively completed a variety of different types of vascular surgeries for the first time in Shaanxi Province, northwest China and even the whole country. In 2002, carotid endarterectomy was first performed in northwest China. In 2003, the first case of endovascular isolation of the aortic dissection covered stent was completed in our hospital. In 2006, vascular reconstruction of the carotid artery occlusion was first conducted in northwest China. In 2009, the first case of carotid endarterectomy combined with coronary artery bypass grafting was completed in northwest region. In 2013, the first hybrid operation was carried out in Shaanxi Province to treat type B aortic dissection. In 2015, the first case of heparin-coupled stent graft was launched to treat arterial diseases of the lower limbs in northwest China, exceptional carotid endarterectomy was performed for the first time in Shaanxi Province, the first case of circular laser surgery for varicose veins of the lower limbs was carried out in northwest China, hybrid surgical treatment of carotid artery-derived ganglioneuroblastoma was first performed in China, respectively. In 2016, the first case of drug balloon therapy for the lower limb artery occlusion in Shaanxi Province was completed in 2016. In 2017, laser ablation combined with drug balloon therapy was first applied to treat primary lower limb artery occlusion in northwest China.
