Professor Zhang Chengsheng from Precision Medicine Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University among the delegation from Xi 'an Jiaotong University was invited to visit Leiden University for academic exchange and cooperation in the Netherlands from April 15 to 22, 2019. Bilateral sides reached various consensus and cooperation intentions.
During the academic visit, Professor Ye Kai from the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Xi 'an Jiaotong University and Professor Zhang Chengsheng from our hospital delivered extensive talks and communication with experts and professors from Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and Institute of Biology Leiden (IBL) and Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research (LACDR), achieving multiple consensus and cooperation intentions. The intentions are (1) to cooperate with Professor Jacques Neefjes, Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), and his team to carry out tumor immunological research; (2) to collaborate with Professor Peter ten Dijke, Member of KNAW, and his team to conduct research on cancer biology, cell signaling and cancer targeted therapy,etc.; (3) to jointly work with Professor Peter Devilee, Director of Department of Human Genetics of LUMC, and his team to perform genetic and genomic research; (4) to cooperate with Professor Johan den Dunnen and his team from LUMC to carry out genomic and clinical molecular diagnostic research; (5) to join hands with Professor Jesse Swen, Director of Pharmacogenetics Laboratory of LUMC to conduct pharmacogenetic research; (6) to cooperate with Professor Adriaan IJzerman and his team from LACDR on research and development of cancer targeted drugs, and research on pharmacologic mechanism and drug resistance mechanism. And (7) all professors and their research teams agreed to invite the postgraduate and doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and other scientific researchers from our hospital to LUMC for academic visit, study or advanced study.
In addition, Leiden University announced that April 16 is the "Xi'an Jiaotong University Day" to celebrate a series of achievements made in academic exchange and collaboration between two universities and look forward to a brighter prospect of cooperation. This is the first time that Leiden University has held a themed day of academic activities for a foreign university since its foundation.
During the visit, the delegation jointly held a talent recruitment meeting, explicitly illustrating the development history, disciplinary construction, scientific research platform, research results, medical services, talent recruitment, the development blueprint for the Innovation port and the development prospects of Xi 'an Jiaotong University and our hospital. All participants and young scholars expressed intense interests in the research platform established in our hospital and continued to deliver in-depth discussions and seek for "individual project collaboration" with the teachers from our hospital.
This visit is a complete success, which opens a new chapter for international exchange between Leiden University and our hospital.
