On August 11, the remote training activity of the Silk Road Action of a Community of Share Future for Mankind Health-International Lecture on Cooperation Mechanism between Chinese and African Counterpart Hospitals (Phase II) was smoothly launched, aiming to further consolidate the cooperation between Chinese and African counterpart hospitals and strengthen the medical exchanges and guidance between China and Africa. Relevant staff from Omdurman Friendship Hospital in Sudan and members of orthopedic project team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) participated in the activity, which was presided over by Yin Zhanhai, Deputy Director of Department of Orthopedics.
Department of Orthopedics of Omdurman Friendship Hospital in Sudan is responsible for the rescue treatment of patients diagnosed with orthopedic diseases, especially those with traumatic orthopedic diseases, in Sudan's capital and Khartoum Province, which has a high reputation and influence in Sudan. However, there are still multiple problems, such as lack of equipment, understaff, limited talent training and difficulty in strengthening and expanding clinical techniques,etc.Therefore, the orthopedic project team of our hospital delivered a detailed training plan according to the actual situation of the development of the local hospital, and carried out medical technical training from the aspects of joint, spine, bone tumor, rehabilitation treatment, aiming to improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment capability of the hospital in Sudan.
Xiu Jintao, Attending Physician from Department of Orthopedics gave a lecture entitled Basic Knee Arthroscopy, illustrating the preparations for knee arthroscopy, the details and precautions in anesthesia, posture and surgical draping, and the common approaches and explorations of knee arthroscopy to the orthopedic medical practitioners in Sudan.
According to the actual cases of knee arthroscopy, Attending Physician Xiu Jintao shared the standard procedures before knee arthroscopy, and made full preparations from the surgeon, surgical team, hardware equipment and operating room environment, and then performed the operation as scheduled. In terms of anesthesia, posture and surgical draping, extensive attention should be paid to the selection of anesthesia approaches and surgical posture for the average and special patients. Intraoperatively, it is necessary to master multiple methods, such as the anterior, posteromedial, posterolateral and suprapatellar approaches, etc. He particularly emphasized that it is necessary to establish a three-dimensional concept, master the "triangle operation technique" and carry out systematic arthroscopic procedures to understand the anatomical structures and lesions in the knee joint, thereby avoiding missing the lesions and performing precision surgery.
After the training activity, the orthopedic project team members from bilateral sides discussed the incidence and types of knee joint diseases, such as arthritis, synovitis, knee joint injury and meniscus injury,etc. Besides, the Chinese members also learned about the CT scan, MRI and imaging procedures of Sudan counterpart hospital to better understand the hospital environment and diagnosis and treatment procedures.
Dr.Hatem Khalil (Professor of Orthopedics), President of Omdurman Friendship Hospital in Sudan, expressed high recognition and great gratitude for the serial orthopedic training lecture carefully designed by our hospital. He hoped that the serial orthopedic training lectures could be delivered as scheduled, providing more professional knowledge for the local physicians in Sudan.
