On the evening of January 14, 2024, the 10th-batch China (Shaanxi) Medical Team in Malawi returned with honor. As a medical team member, Tan Jing, Attending Physician from Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), successfully completed the task. Feng Guanglin, Deputy Party Secretary of FAH, Vice President Li Lei, and relevant heads of Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Department of Human Resources, United Front Work Department, Labor Union and Publicity Department greeted Tan Jing at the airport.
On behalf of FAH, Feng Guanglin welcomed the return of Tan Jing, and appreciated Tan Jing for obeying the overall situation, fulfilling the duties, spreading the spirit of China medical teams, demonstrating high-level medical technology in medical aid work, and conveying the humanitarianism of saving lives of medical workers in China. Feng Guanglin briefly introduced recent work of FAH and hoped that Tan Jing would continually make contribution to high-quality development of FAH after full rest.
On December 7, 2022, Tan Jing was appointed as a member of the 10th-batch China (Shaanxi) Medical Team to carry out medical aid work in Mzuzu Central Hospital, the largest hospital in northern Malawi. During 1-year stay, Tan Jing gave full play to her professional expertise, completed clinical anesthesia for 665 patients, rescued more than 90 critically ill patients, developed a series of novel technologies, delivered clinical teaching and training, modified surgical procedures of operating room in local hospital and enhanced the professional quality of physicians in local hospital. She received the honorary title of Excellent China Medical Team Member in 2023, and established deep friendship with local colleagues and patients, writing a new chapter of China-Africa friendship in Africa.
