The American Urological Association 2019 Annual Meeting (AUA 2019) was grandly held in Chicago, Illinois on May 3-6. Chief Physician He Dalin, Deputy Chief Physician Yang Lin and Attending Physician Zeng Jin from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University attended the annual meeting. Yang Lin was invited to deliver a presentation on the novel explorations of bladder neck contracture (BNC) treatment following transurethral resection of the prostate.
BNC is a common postoperative complication in benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) patients. The research team led by Deputy Chief Physician Yang Lin recruited 27 patients with highly recurrent of BNCs (BNCs recurred > 2 times) in 3 years, and delivered transurethral resection combined with 4 times of intra- and post-operative triamcinolone injections. None of the patients recurred at postoperative 3 months. During postoperative 12-month follow-up, the urinary flow rate was significantly increased and maintained in 24 patients. These findings prompt that this combined treatment strategy is probably a simple, safe, and effective treatment for highly recurrent BNCs.
During the presentation, Deputy Chief Physician Yang Lin answered questions from the host and the audience. After that, he exchanged ideas with 16 experts from all over the world on this issue. Professor Kewin, the host of the meeting, expressed that this innovative surgical technique is safe, effective, simple and practical, expecting to extend further exchanges and cooperation with Yang Lin at AUA2020 in Washington next year.
More than 16,000 doctors and researchers from over 100 countries and regions attended the AUA 2019 Annual Meeting. The annual meeting spans all clinical hot spots and challenges as well as multiple basic research issues of urology.
