Director Zhao Yingren led his team of preventing mother-to-child transmission of chronic hepatitis B virus infection to deliver oral presentation of six abstracts at European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) International Liver Congress, setting a new record for the number of oral presentations on a single topic at international conferences in China.

All six selected abstracts for oral presentation were contributed by postgraduate students from Infection Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, including Dr. Yao Naijuan, Dr. Wu Yuchao, M.S. Feng Yali, M.S. Li Juan and M.S. Fu Shan. These abstracts are part of the academic outcomes obtained from the drafting of "Guidelines on Prevention and Treatment of Mother-to-Child Transmission of Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection in China" led by Professor Zhao Yingren's team from Infection Department. It is the first multidisciplinary prevention and treatment guideline on the safety of women of childbearing age with chronic infection with hepatitis B virus and their infants in northwest China, which focuses on systematically and effectively guiding the clinical evidence-based practice of prevention and treatment of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B and aims at lowering the mother-to-child transmission rate of hepatitis B in China. The oral presentations delivered at this international congress reflect the strict standards and high quality of this guideline, which will lay a more solid foundation for subsequent promotion and application of this guideline.

The team of preventing mother-to-child transmission of chronic hepatitis B virus infection from Infection Department has been dedicated to clinical and basic research on preventing mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B for over 10 years. Relevant academic outcomes have been cited by the widely-recognized international guideline (EASL 2017 Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection), presented at multiple international conferences and selected as the Top 10 abstracts at 2016 Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL). The team members have been invited for academic exchange in 26 provinces and cities across China.
