At 3:00 p.m. on May 11, Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine conducted academic exchanges with President Shi Bingyin and some teachers from Endocrine Department, Infectious Disease Department, Clinical Research Center and Information Center of our hospital in Multi-Function Hall on 8/F of East Building 1. Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao were invited by President Shi to learn about the current situation of clinical research in our hospital, conduct in-depth discussions and relaxed exchanges on such topics as diabetes, antibiotic abuse and HIV and form a preliminary cooperation intention on clinical research projects.
President Shi first briefed Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao on the medical environment and current situation of scientific research in our hospital. Then Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao introduced their research institutions and research fields. During the exchange, Teacher Sui Jing talked about that the advantage to carry out clinical research on diabetes was the huge sample size, for about 50,000 diabetic patients came to our hospital every year, while the difficulties were the imperfect data collection system and incomplete clinical data of patients. Teacher He Yingli introduced the research status of HIV and hemorrhagic fever in our hospital. Director Feng Weiyi presented the current research topic of antibiotic abuse to be carried out in our hospital. Deputy Director Lü Jun introduced the current situation of clinical research and initial results achieved by our hospital. Professor Jaffar, taking his clinical scientific research as an example, shared his experience on how to carry out clinical research in the team, how to set up a database and how to conduct data analysis in the UK. He also gave some sincere suggestions on the future research direction of clinical research. Both Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao expressed their willingness to cooperate with clinical researchers in our hospital and sincerely welcomed doctors and researchers in our hospital to come to Britain for exchanges, thus further promoting the international cooperation and technical exchanges between two sides.
At the end of exchange meeting, President Shi expressed his thanks to Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao for their visit. In addition, President Shi said that the research project discussed would be followed by a detailed research program to continue the exchanges with Professor Jaffar and Professor Wang Duolao, and he hoped that research papers with top international influence would be published with the sincere cooperation of both parties.
