Livestream activity of 2022 World Alzheimer Month National Public Popular Science Publicity Northwest Session is successfully held

Initiated by Dementia and Cognitive Impairment Group of Professional Committee of Neurology of Chinese Medical Association, National Key Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Advanced Cognitive Impairment of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) joined hands with experts in the field of dementia from five northwestern provinces to launch a special livestream public popular science publicity event entitled "Regional Collaboration, Expert Popularization" on September 17 via the Baidu and WeChat platforms during 2022 World Alzheimer Month.

Professor Qu Qiumin from our hospital chaired and delivered the opening speech. Professor Zhang Wei from Tangdu Hospital, Professor Zhang Yi from Gansu Provincial People's Hospital, Professor Zhu Aiqin from Qinghai Provincial People's Hospital, Professor Meng Xinling from Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Professor Xiao Yan from Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Hospital, Professor Li Haining from General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University and Professor Wang Jin from our hospital attended the event.

In the lecture session, Professor Zhang Wei gave a speech entitled "What’s the harm of dementia? How to prevent it?", explicitly illustrating the epidemiology, harm and prevention of dementia. Professor Zhang Yi and Professor Zhu Aiqin delivered lectures entitled "Is memory decline equivalent to dementia? How to identify early dementia?" and "How to treat dementia?", respectively.

Subsequently, experts delivered intense discussion on the hot topics that patients and their families cared about. Professor Meng Xinling contributed a lecture entitled "How to evaluate the therapeutic effect of current dementia drugs", and introduced the classification of current drug treatment and assessment methods for the therapeutic effect. Professor Xiao Yan gave a lecture entitled "Besides taking medicine, what else treatment can relieve dementia?”, highlighting the importance of maintaining brain function and performing cognitive training. Professor Wang Jin delivered a lecture entitled "How do you view sending the elderly to nursing facility?", stressing that it depends on individuals and it might be a feasible option to send the elderly to a centralized, professional and safe nursing facility. Professor Li Haining explicitly illustrated how to take good care of the elderly from different aspects of clothing, diet, housing and transportation.

During the third Q&A session, patients and their families actively asked questions on the spot, and the expert group selected and answered six representative questions. Finally, Professor Qu Qiumin introduced the public welfare action of "Alzheimer's Disease Prevention and Control Map in China", and announced the official launch of Alzheimer's Disease Prevention and Control Map in northwest China (Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai provinces, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

In this event, the number of online participants reached 55,000 according to the statistics from Baidu platform and 1,400 on the WeChat platform.
