On June 26, 2022, National Medical Center Innovation Academic Month Series Activities—Rheumatology and Immunology Summit Forum was successfully held in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU).

Professor He Lan from Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of our hospital served as the Chairman, and the forum was conducted both online and in-person. Professor Liu Wanli from School of Life Sciences and Institute for Immunology of Tsinghua University, Professor Wan Ying, Director of Institute of Immunology of PLA and Biomedical Analysis and Testing Center of Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), Professor Yang Chengde from Ruijin Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Professor Zhang Baojun, Director of School of Basic Medical Sciences of XJTU Health Science Center and other experts in the field of immunology were invited as speakers. Professor Ji Yanhong, an immunologist from School of Basic Medical Sciences of XJTU Health Science Center, and Professor Li Xueyi, Director of Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of XJTU, and Professor Hao Zhiming and Professor Pu Dan from Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of our hospital chaired the forum.

Professor He Lan highlighted the significance of organizing National Medical Center Innovation Academic Month Series Activities in our hospital, introduced current status of rapid development of rheumatology and immunology in recent years, as well as the existing difficulties and challenges, and stressed the necessity of complementary combination of basic immunology and clinical medicine. Professor Liu Wanli from Tsinghua University elucidated how to find scientific problems and work out solutions in the process of cooperation between team members and clinicians, and subsequently introduced recent research progress upon the role of B cells in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases. Professor Wan Ying illustrated how his team attempted to improve the shortcomings of existing technologies, and showcased the achievements of his team in terms of frontier technologies and hot issues in the field of bone immunology. Professor Yang Chengde presented the difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of clinical antiphospholipid syndrome and shared the achievements and experience of his team in clinical and basic research for years. Professor Zhang Baojun presented a big picture from the past, present and future of Treg and introduced the research process and major findings of his team in integrating basic immunity with clinical issues.

With the theme of "Multidisciplinary Cooperation Leads to Innovation", this forum focuses on international frontier technologies and research hotspots including basic immunology, clinical medicine and translational medicine and creates a novel perspective and direction for the research and development of clinical medicine of rheumatology and immunology, which is of far-reaching significance for the discipline development and construction of National Medical Center in our hospital.
