On June 1, 2022, the first lecture of IN TALK hosted by International Exchange Office successfully concluded. Professor Zhang Weihong in public health from Medical Health School of Ghent University in Belgium, Zhang Chi, Chief Representative of Ghent University in China, Ye Feng, Deputy Director of Medical Department and Director of Infection Control Office of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Ren Hui, Deputy Director of International Exchange Office and Yang Nan, Associate Research Professor from Department of Infectious Diseases, attended the meeting, which was chaired by Ren Hui.

Ren Hui introduced the current situation of the construction of National Medical Center. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, XJTU and our hospital have extended online connections with Ghent University for many times to share the anti-epidemic experience. We hope to make concrete actions to establish cooperation in more areas via this formal dialogue.
Zhang Chi highlighted that Ghent University and XJTU have a long history of mutual cooperation, and bilateral sides have achieved fruitful outcomes in talent training and scientific research. Both sides are expected to take this exchange as an opportunity to seek for substantive cooperation in the field of public health, and constantly promote mutual development in more fields at higher levels. Subsequently, Professor Zhang Weihong introduced the basic situation of Ghent University in Belgium, the development of public health and international cooperation mode. She recognized that Ghent University has established intimate cooperation with China in talent training, agreement signing, and project research, hoping that bilateral sides can overcome the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, conduct online and in-person communication, and seek for more opportunities for cooperation.


Director Ye Feng illustrated the construction of Public Health Center in our hospital from six aspects including organizational structure, supporting capacity, functional layout, construction contents, objectives and international cooperation expectations. He was confident that bilateral sides can explore specific cooperation contents in two major sections and six major systems to be built in Public Health Center. Associate Research Professor Yang Nan from Department of Infectious Diseases introduced the basic situation, disciplinary characteristics and staff composition of this department, and put forward two co-construction modes based on project cooperation and joint talent training.
Finally, bilateral sides delivered in-depth discussion and exchanged ideas on potential areas of cooperation.
