In March 2022, Baosteel Education Fund released the List of 2021 Baosteel Education Award Winners, in which Professor Liu Chang, Vice President of our hospital, received the title of “2021 Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award”.
Professor Liu Chang, Chief Physician of Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Doctoral Tutor, has worked in the medical and education fields for 30 years. Her focus area is surgical treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases and surgical critical care medicine, and she has made outstanding achievements in clinical medicine and teaching fields.
As the head of Shaanxi Province Organ Transplantation Key Technology Innovation Team, Professor Liu Chang established the Surgical ICU of our hospital and led to build a skilled and competent surgical intensive care team, so as to guarantee and support the perioperative management of major organ transplantation and complicated surgical operations. She has also led to build the “Northwest Alliance for Complicated Intra-abdominal Infections” to effectively improve the treatment success rate of patients with intra-abdominal infections in the northwest region. She has initiated the first case of modified ALPPS surgery for hepatic hydatidosis in the world and the first case of coronary-vena cava bypass surgery technology for portal hypertension in the northwest China. She has been the first one to propose the concept of “pan- complicated intra-abdominal infections” and philosophy of “intra-abdominal infection partition” both in China and internationally, widely recognized by domestic and foreign experts.
Over the years, Professor Liu Chang has created the curriculum system of Medical Humanities with the objective to improve the students’ competence to medical humanities clinical posts and the basic mission to foster virtue through education, by combining the current situation of humanistic education in clinical medicine and demands for clinical medical and health services, so as to deeply integrate value creation with medical humanistic spirit, skills and quality. This curriculum has been broadly popular among students.
In 2019, Medical Humanities and Practices was awarded the first prize of “National Hybrid Instructional Design Innovation Competition”, and recognized the first-class course in the national first-class undergraduate program in 2020. In 2021, Professor Liu Chang was reputed the leader and outstanding teacher of the teaching team in the “Curriculum Ideological and Political Demonstration Course” of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, Professor Liu Chang was awarded the Shaanxi Province Excellent Doctoral Tutor.
