In December, two divisions of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) launched in-depth integration. The indexes, such as patient admission, bed utilization rate and number of surgery in Department of General Surgery III began to elevate steadily, and various systems and processes within the department were continually improved and supplemented. Under the leadership of Sun Xuejun, Director of Department of General Surgery of our hospital, Associate Professor Li Xuqi, Discipline Head of Department of General Surgery in East District, led the department to actively cooperate with relevant work in East Division, Yanliang Division and main hospital, and young physicians and nurses from Department of General Surgery in East District were integrating with main hospital in terms of medical treatment, teaching and scientific research.

On January 6, 2022, Shi Xiaoqiang, Attending Physician from Department of General Surgery in East District, published an online article entitled The Inhibitory Effects of Naringin in a Rat Model of Postoperative Intraperitoneal Adhesion Formation in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (impact factor=2.65), a representative journal in the field of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine. This is the first article in SCI-indexed journal published by East District since the integration between East District and main hospital. Attending Physician Shi Xiaoqiang is the first author. Associate Professor Li Xuqi and Professor Wang Shufeng, Resident Expert from main hospital to East District, are the corresponding authors of this article.

Inspired by the clinical application of the prescription of intestine function recovery decoction by main hospital for several decades, network pharmacological tools were employed to indicate that naringin, one of the effective ingredients in intestine function recovery decoction, can effectively prevent the incidence of postoperative intraperitoneal adhesion. Corresponding experiment confirm that this function of naringin ascribes to inhibiting excessive inflammatory infiltration and promoting gastrointestinal motility.
