According to the statistics of minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery in China in 2020 released at Chinese Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular Surgery Congress 2021 (CMC Week 2021), the quantity of minimally invasive dual-valve surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University ranks the 2nd in China, ranking the 5th for the minimally invasive aortic and aortic valve surgery, and among the top 10 for the total amount of minimally invasive valve surgery, respectively. Meantime, Physician Li Yongxin and Physician Li Jing from Department of Cardiovascular Surgery received the second prizes at the 2nd National Competition for Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery for Young Physicians during CMC Week 2021.
The minimally invasive team of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in our hospital catches up with the pace of the era and is devoted to exploration and innovation for continual progress. The department has successively carried out the first case of minimally invasive aortic root replacement+mitral valvuloplasty in China, the first case of minimally invasive "TMVR+TAVR" through a trans-apical small incision in Northwest China and multi-port interventional valve-in-valve implantation,etc. The proportion of minimally invasive surgery approximately reaches up to 35%. The team also applies the concept of "safety, minimal invasiveness and fastened rehabilitation" into clinical practice. In addition, the amount of minimally invasive mitral valve surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass in our hospital ranks the 13th across China.




From October 19 to 24, 2021, CMC Week 2021 was held in Wuhan. Professor Yan Yang from Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in our hospital was invited to give a live lecture entitled “Mini-Bentall procedure and combinedsurgery through the right intercostal space”, illustrating the implementation of Mini-Bentall procedure and sharing typical cases in our hospital, which was highly recognized by the experts attending the congress.


In CMC Week 2021, the 2nd National Competition for Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery for Young Physicians captivated widespread attention. Due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the contestants from our hospital could not go to Wuhan. However, they overcame multiple difficulties, attended the congress via video connection and competed with the 18 finalists who attended the congress in person. After open, fair and just evaluation by the on-site experts, Deputy Chief Physician Li Yongxin and Attending Physician Li Jing from Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of our hospital both grabbed the second prizes after the excellent performance in the first competition! Physician Li Jing shared the highly-complicated procedure entitled "Minimally invasive Bio-bentall procedure + Sun's procedure", amazing the on-site professional judges. Professor Wang Chunsheng highly recognized Li Jing as "a talented contestant and a world-class procedure". Physician Li Yongxin shared the presentation entitled "Bio-bentall procedure through a small right intercostal incision" and left a deep impression on the judges. The advanced surgical concepts and superb surgical expertise of the two young surgeons from our hospital outshine in the competition.
