On the morning of September 7, 2020 China Heart Congress (CHC) in conjunction with the 5thChina Vascular Congress (CVC) and the 1stChina Healthy-Lifestyle Medical Congress (CHMC) were grandly held. The congress proceeded in both online and offline patterns. In the parallel meeting of structural heart disease, the opening ceremony of College of Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of PFO of National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases was launched. Professor Jiang Shiliang from Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences served as the Honorary Dean, and Professor Zhang Yushun from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Professor Wang Yongjun from Beijing Tiantan Hospital and Professor Pan Xiangbin from Fuwai Hospital served as the co-deans.
Professor Jiang Shiliang, Honorary Dean of College of Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of PFO, introduced the development trend of congenital heart disease in mainland China from 2009 to 2019, and our hospital has completed the largest number of PFO interventions in mainland China.
Professor Wang Yongjun from Department of Neurology of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, proposed that 20% of all types of strokes are caused by heart diseases in China, which is defined as cardiogenic stroke. PFO is the primary cause of cardiogenic stroke among the population aged<45 years old. In the field of stroke, two problems exist in PFO in China. The first issue is that the diagnosis of PFO is not standardized, and the second is that the treatment is not timely. The PFO college is established to further improve the standardized screening of PFO for young stroke patients and deliver timely and effective treatment for PFO patients complicated with stroke.
Professor Zhang Yushun from our hospital highlighted that today is an era of innovation, the innovation of PFO mainly lies in the innovation of thinking. The founding of the PFO college today signifies the completion of innovation of thinking. A unified understanding has been reached among us. Next, the standardized guidelines should be formulated. With the support from the PFO college, this project can proceed in an orderly manner, thereby delivering efficacious treatment for PFO-related symptoms and diseases.
Subsequently, several experts delivered intriguing lectures. The founding of the PFO college provides a platform for medical staff to understand and familiarize the standardized diagnosis and treatment process of PFO, such as postoperative follow-up and other systems.
