On August 21, 2020, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences released the 2019 ranking list of Chinese Hospital Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM). Department of Urology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) ranks sixth in the discipline ranking list in China. The ranking list of 2019 Chinese Hospital STEM covers 1633 hospitals across China, including tertiary hospitals and top 100 hospitals in 31 disciplines (excluding military hospitals). The evaluation results can be assessed based on comprehensive scientific and technological value and scientific and technological value of a certain discipline.

Ranking sixth in the discipline of urology showcases comprehensive scientific research strength of this discipline in our hospital. Department of Urology has always attached great importance to scientific research and talent training. Especially in recent 20 years, tremendous progresses have been made in the innovation and clinical transformation of scientific research. Until the end of 2019, the discipline of urology has obtained 8 National Key Research and Development Projects, 1 key project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 38 surface and youth projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and nearly 40 scientific research projects of Shaanxi Province. Department of Urology has published nearly 500 research articles, including over 260 articles published in SCI-indexed journals. The department grabbed the first prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, hosted 4 Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Shaanxi Province and obtained 6 national invention patents. The department also launched Journal of Modern Urology, which has become an important platform for academic exchanges for urologists in China.
