Our hospital exchanges experience in fight against COVID-19 with three African countries via video conference

As the worldwide COVID-19 situation continues to worsen, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has held multiple video conferences with physicians from Italy, the United States, Australia, Canada and other countries to share China's experience, the plan of XJTU and the actions taken by our hospital. On the afternoon of April 23, our hospital delivered video conference with Sudan, Malawi and the Republic of Congo to share our experience in the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19.

She Junjun, Assistant-to-President of our hospital, Li Manxiang, Director of Department of Respiratory Medicine, Professor Liu Zhengwen from Department of Infectious Diseases, Professor Liu Yi from Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ren Hui, Deputy Director of International Exchange Office, officials from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Sudan, officials from Ministry of Health of the Republic of Sudan, Guo Yadong, leader of China's 35thbatch of medical aid team to Sudan and team members, Song Xiaofeng, leader of China's 7thbatch of medical aid team to Malawi and team members and Wang Jian, leader of China's 26thbatch of medical aid team to the Republic of Congo and team members attended the remote exchange conference. Assistant-to-President She Junjun presided over the exchange meeting.

Professor Li Manxiang delivered an in-depth interpretation of the differential diagnosis of COVID-19 from five aspects of epidemic history, clinical symptoms, diagnostic criteria of confirmed cases, clinical manifestations and differential diagnosis. Professor Liu Zhengwen analyzed the antiviral treatment experience of COVID-19 from pharmacological mechanism, drug trial, clinical application and drug dosage of different drugs. Liu Yi elaborated the role of Chinese medicine in the treatment of COVID-19, therapeutic effect of compound Chinese medicine selected from the ‘traditional Chinese medicine regime’ and the application of non-drug therapy in traditional Chinese medicine to identify the Chinese medicine strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. Ren Hui shared practical experience and concrete measures of medical staff on how to protect themselves in their work and life. Via this video conference, all experts hoped to share valuable experience with their counterparts from Africa in the combat with COVID-19 and get through the pandemic very soon.

Subsequently, Professor Li Manxiang, Professor Liu Zhengwen and Professor Liu Yi shared their opinions and experiences in the infectivity of COVID-19, quarantine time, the role of traditional Chinese medicine and other topics. All participants had a heated discussion.
