On May 30, Professor Baron Jean-Louis Vincent, a renowned international expert in critical care medicine, former President of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine, and professor from the Department of Intensive Care at Erasme University Hospital, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, visited the Neurology ICU at the Land Port Division of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for exchanges at the invitation of the FAH. He gained an in-depth understanding of the working model of the Department of Neurology, the types of patients admitted, and its clinical operation mechanisms. Dr. Cheng Yawen and Head Nurse Pi Chenxi accompanied the visit and gave introductions.

During the visit, Dr. Cheng Yawen systematically presented the distinctive practices of the Neurology ICU in severe cerebrovascular diseases, neurocritical care, multimodal monitoring, and individualized treatment. Professor Vincent spoke highly of the department’s rigorous and standardized diagnostic and treatment processes, advanced monitoring equipment, and efficient collaboration among the medical and nursing team. He also expressed appreciation for the department’s clinical research awareness and treatment capabilities in the field of neurocritical care.

During the discussion session, the two sides had exchanges on current priority research topics in the field of neurocritical care and shared views on potential future international multicenter collaborative research projects. Professor Vincent expressed his hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further promote substantive cooperation between the two sides in clinical research in critical care medicine, talent training, and academic exchanges, and to jointly advance the development of the discipline.

The visit not only demonstrated the comprehensive strength of the FAH Neurology ICU in the field of critical care medicine, but also laid a solid foundation for promoting in-depth cooperation between the critical care medicine at the FAH and leading international teams.
