On January 10, 2026, the “West China Forum on Technology-Enabled Ostomy Development and the Academic Conference of the West China Intestinal Ostomy Nursing Specialty Alliance” was successfully held at the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). More than 100 nursing professionals from 76 member institutions across 12 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in western China attended the meeting. The conference was organized by Chief Nurse Qiao Lina, head of the West China Intestinal Ostomy Nursing Specialty Alliance, and chaired by Jin Xianzhen, Deputy Chief Nurse of the Yulin Hospital of the FAH of XJTU.

The conference comprised themed lectures, case discussions, workshops, and hospital visits, focusing on key topics such as the development of intestinal ostomy specialty nursing and the extension of services to the primary level. Director Li Jieqiong and Director Sun Xuejun delivered the opening remarks, respectively.

During the themed lecture session, Qiao Lina reported on the alliance’s progress and interpreted the Insight from the White Paper on Home Care for Ostomy Patients in China, analyzing pain points and needs in post-discharge care. Director Xin Juan, Zhang Hua, Li Qin, and other experts and scholars shared insights on topics such as applications for continuing education programs, ostomy assessment, case management, humanistic nursing, and clinical guidelines. The academic sessions were chaired by multiple experts from within and outside the province, such as Feng Xiangying and Wei Suyan.

During the phased discussion sessions, experts from hospitals both within and outside the province, such as the Second Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, engaged in in-depth discussions on clinical challenges and the development of ostomy care at the primary level. In the workshop session, Zhang Jie from Shaanxi Provincial Cancer Hospital and Wang Huijun from the FAH of XJTU combined practical exercises with discussions to help participants deepen their understanding and application of ostomy care techniques. After the session, attendees visited the ostomy outpatient clinic and the Department of General Surgery at the FAH of XJTU.

In her concluding remarks, Qiao Lina emphasized the core theme for the alliance throughout the year as “professional extension and expanding influence”. As the leading institution of the alliance, the FAH of XJTU will continue to play a leading role in the region, helping member institutions become regional benchmarks and promoting the deep integration of ostomy care research and clinical practice.
