On the morning of December 25, 2025, the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and the National Medical Center of Uzbekistan successfully held a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement. President Lyu Yi, Mallayev Ikrom Usmanovich from Cardiac Surgery at the National Medical Center of Uzbekistan, Keita Kikuchi, Yan Yang, as well as leaders from relevant functional departments and medical staff representatives from both sides attended the ceremony.

President Lyu Yi delivered remarks on behalf of the FAH. He noted that this cooperation is an important measure to actively respond to the national initiative of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and to the proposal to build a “global community of health for all”. He introduced the FAH’s development history, overall strengths and leading position in the field of cardiovascular surgery. Through organizing more than ten rounds of international training courses in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, the FAH has provided systematic training for physicians from multiple countries such as Uzbekistan. He expressed the hope that, taking this signing as an opportunity, the two sides will learn from each other and deepen collaboration in more key medical fields, further fulfilling the Belt and Road mission of extending medical technologies and responsibilities, and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in a substantive and sustained manner.
Director Ikrom noted that the National Medical Center of Uzbekistan is the country’s core medical institution and has extensive experience in fields such as cardiac surgery. He expressed his expectation that the signing of this cooperation agreement will open a new chapter of pragmatic collaboration between the two hospitals in areas such as clinical skills training, talent exchanges and joint scientific research, jointly improving the quality of medical services and benefiting the people of both countries.
Subsequently, Director Yan Yang, on behalf of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, reviewed the department’s prior experience in successful collaborations with a number of world-leading institutions and elaborated on the directions for deeper cooperation with the Uzbek side in the future.
President Lyu Yi and Professor Ikrom signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. The two sides also jointly unveiled the plaque for the “Cardiovascular Disease Collaborative Hospital”, marking the official launch of in-depth cooperation between the two hospitals in the field of cardiovascular specialty care.
