From November 4 to 8, 2025, the Second Phase of the China-France Psychomotor Rehabilitation Faculty Training Program was held in Xi’an. The program was co-hosted by the Shanghai Mental Health Center, the Shaanxi Mental Health Association, the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and Institute Superieur de Reeducation Psychomotrice (ISRP), and was organized by the Department of Psychiatry, the FAH of XJTU. A total of 51 participants, such as psychiatrists, rehabilitation therapists, and key nursing staff from across China, were present.

The program specially invited Mathilde Akian, a French state-certified psychomotor therapist and lecturer at the ISRP, to deliver the course instruction, with senior interpreter Lin Shengzhao from the same institute providing interpretation for the entire session. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Wei, Director of the Department of Psychiatry at the FAH of XJTU. Ma Xianchang, Vice President of the FAH, Fan Qing, Director of the Department of Rehabilitation at the Shanghai Mental Health Center, and a representative from the French side delivered remarks, respectively.

In recent years, psychomotor therapy has seen increasingly widespread application in psychiatric nursing, emerging as an important means of enhancing patients’ daily functioning and ability to reintegrate into society. This training program focuses on the theoretical framework, assessment tools, and intervention strategies of psychomotor rehabilitation, and helps participants translate knowledge into clinical skills through interactive formats such as case analysis and role-playing.

Participants stated that the training not only updated their understanding of psychiatric rehabilitation, but also enabled them to master integrated strategies combining psychomotor therapy and psychological interventions. It deepened their appreciation of the value of psychomotor rehabilitation in clinical practice, broadened their professional horizons, and provided new ideas and methods for incorporating rehabilitation concepts into future clinical work.

The successful conclusion of the China-France Psychomotor Rehabilitation Faculty Training Program marks a solid step forward for the FAH’s Department of Psychiatry in international education and clinical practice of psychiatric rehabilitation. By integrating advanced international rehabilitation concepts, the program consistently promotes the in-depth integration of nursing and rehabilitation disciplines. It provides talent support and practical exemplars for mental health services, fully demonstrating the department’s academic influence and sense of responsibility in leading innovation in psychiatric rehabilitation and nursing.
