On October 10, with the assistance of "Smart Hospital" of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), People's Hospital of Ali Area delivered a 400-km remote consultation with People's Hospital of Pulan County at an average altitude of 4,000 m, which was the pioneering event in Ali area.

The patient was a 7-year-old girl. The attending physician from People's Hospital of Pulan County tapped the "Smart Hospital" App to share the medical records and examination results, and briefly introduced the medical history of the girl: the patient experienced fever with unknown causes for 15 days and had no improvement after treatment in Baga Township Hospital. She received chest plain scanning, routine blood examination, liver and kidney function tests, etc. According to the medical records shared on the "Smart Hospital" system, Chu Dake, physician from our hospital assigned into Tibet Autonomous Region for medical aid, delivered diagnosis and treatment regime after careful inquiry, enabling the patient and her family members to experience high-level medical services at home.

Ali area in Tibet is extremely cold, anoxic and dry. Such harsh environment makes it truly a "forbidden zone". Ali area covers a vast territory with a distance of approximately 400-700 kilometers from its neighboring counties. Due to large area and sparse population, it is extremely inconvenient for Tibetans from all counties to go to People's Hospital of Ali Area for medical diagnosis and treatment. "What Ali area needs most is a convenient access to hospitals and experienced doctors", which is the personal feeling of Chu Dake, a member of the 5th batch medical team assigned to Tibet Autonomous Region.

To spread high-quality medical resources to Ali area, our hospital fully utilizes valuable experiences and feasible approaches of "Smart Hospital" to assist the health departments in Ali area to establish an interconnected online hospital, enabling common diseases to be treated at local hospitals and providing rapid technological support and response to complex medical conditions. In the future, "Smart Hospital" of our hospital will connect Ali area with counties under its jurisdiction to create novel channels for hierarchical bi-directional referral system under the backdrop of new medical reform through Internet technology, realize data exchange and business integration within the hospital information systems and smart medical service platforms between high-level and low-level hospitals, paving a high-speed interconnected health pathway for "Ali area in heaven".
