On October 11, Professor Mark Hallett, Director of the Neurology Branch of National Institutes of Health (NIH) and President of American Neurological Association, paid a visit to Clinical Research Salon of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and delivered an academic lecture entitled "How to discover scientific problems in clinical practice and translate them into high-quality papers".
Professor Hallett introduced the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke of NIH and his long-term devotion to the clinical and scientific research on dyskinesia. In addition, he shared personal experience on how to put forward a meaningful research problem from clinical work and how to translate clinical problems into scientific research problems. He also explicitly introduced the whole process from study design and implementation, manuscript drafting, submission to acceptance. Professor Hallett stressed that Chinese scholars and researchers should invite English-native medical experts to edit the language prior to manuscript submission. He also proposed that it is totally viable to send an e-mail for inquiring the manuscript status if you have waited a long period of time after submission.
Professor Hallett has been engaged in clinical and scientific research in the field of neurology for many years, and has obtained outstanding achievements in Parkinson's disease, motor disorders and neuroelectrophysiology,etc. He has published articles in Brain, Neurology and other top-notch international journals. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, The Cerebellum, Brain Stimulation, Journal of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Clinical Practice,etc.
