On September 15, 2025, Prof. Bernd Karl-Heinz Dieter Hamm, Senior Professor at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology, an internationally leading journal in radiology, visited the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for exchanges.
Professor Hamm is a leading authority in the international field of radiology. He has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), President of the ESR, President of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), Chair of the European Committee of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and President of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR). He has published more than one thousand original research papers.

Professor Hamm and his delegation conducted an on-site visit to the Department of Radiology, where they inspected cutting-edge facilities such as the 5T magnetic resonance imaging system and the low-dose CT diagnostic platform. They reviewed the equipment’s operational efficiency and technological innovations, remarking that the clinical translation of these technologies has reached an internationally leading level. At the Shaanxi Provincial Intelligent Engineering Research Center for Computational Imaging Medicine, he gained detailed insights into the center’s operational model and research directions. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on a range of clinical and scientific research topics, such as low-dose CT, brain development, transcranial magnetic stimulation for cerebral palsy, AI-assisted diagnosis, and manuscript submissions for RSNA 2025. During the symposium, Professor Hamm shared cutting-edge international research achievements and clinical experience, while also offering valuable suggestions for the ongoing research efforts of domestic teams in related fields.

The international exchanges not only represent a profound convergence of technologies, but also hold landmark significance in the global landscape of radiology. Professor Hamm’s recognition showcases the international academic standing of the Department of Radiology at the FAH of XJTU, establishing a normalized bridge for dialogue between Chinese and European radiology disciplines and promoting two-way talent exchanges and training. This model of “technology sharing, joint research, and talent co-cultivation” breaks down geographical and disciplinary barriers, injecting new momentum into building a global community of innovation in radiology.
