On September 11, the national finals of the Movement Disorders Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Case Competition concluded in Hangzhou. Led by Deputy Director Zhou Lina, the team from the Department of Psychiatry at the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) participated in the event. Dr. Li Baijia advanced to the national finals and ultimately achieved an outstanding result, winning the First Prize (National Champion).

Movement disorders are common conditions in both departments of neurology and psychiatry, and their diagnosis and treatment have long been a major focus of clinical practice. In the field of psychiatry in particular, tardive dyskinesia, which often occurs in patients with severe mental disorders receiving long-term antipsychotic medication, poses not only significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment but also seriously affects patients’ daily quality of life. Basing her presentation on a real clinical case, Dr. Li Baijia systematically reported the full course of diagnosis and treatment of a patient with schizophrenia complicated by tardive dyskinesia, and shared her clinical practice experience and perspectives on future research in this field. Her presentation was closely aligned with clinical realities, pragmatic and thorough, with clear and composed delivery and confident stage presence, earning unanimous high praise from the panel of judges.

The national finals brought together eight outstanding contestants from across the country, most of whom were senior neurologists. Dr. Li Baijia’s remarkable achievement of standing out among these elites and winning the top prize has not only demonstrated her solid theoretical foundation and rigorous clinical reasoning, but also highlighted the exceptional professionalism and growth potential of the young psychiatrists in the Department of Psychiatry of the FAH, bringing honor to the FAH of XJTU on a national stage.
