Recently, Professor Yang Lin from Department of Vascular Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) participated in publishing Clinical Guidelines on Compression Therapy in Venous Diseases in Annals of Vascular Surgery, an authoritative international journal in the field of vascular surgery. According to literature review, it is the first clinical guideline for compression therapy of different venous diseases worldwide and it is also the first guideline on vascular compression therapy mainly proposed by vascular surgeons from China.

Multiple types of venous diseases share common pathophysiological mechanisms whereas require different treatment methods. Therefore, recent clinical treatment guidelines for different venous diseases mainly focus upon clinical surgical interventions, and there is no specific clinical guideline for compression therapy of venous diseases around the world. The vascular compression therapy group of Peripheral Vessel Branch of Chinese Society of Microcirculation formulated clinical guidelines for compression therapy of venous diseases by summarizing the literature published this year. In the guideline, the panels made 30 recommendations from current evidence, focusing on 7 fields of lower extremity venous disease: venous thromboembolism, post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), varicose veins, hemangioma and vascular malformation, lymphedema and venous ulcers and 18 topics. Annals of Vascular Surgery, an international authoritative journal in the field of vascular surgery, publishes this clinical guideline, which not only signifies China’s significant progress in the field of compression treatment of venous diseases in vascular surgery, but also plays a critical role in promoting the application and standardization of compression treatment of related diseases.

Professor Yang Lin is mainly responsible for compression treatment of thrombotic diseases during the compilation of this guideline. The publication of this international guideline is one of significant achievements of discipline construction by Department of Vascular Surgery in FAH.
