Appointed by the National Health Commission, National Medical Team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University arrived in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province on June 10, 2019 to launch the 1-month itinerant medical work. On July 10, the members of National Medical Team successfully completed the task and returned to Xi’an in triumph.
The team members have successively undertaken medical assistance work in People's Hospital of Weixi Lisu Autonomous County, Deqin County People's Hospital and Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People’s Hospital as scheduled. During this period, 3 start-up work meetings were held, 117 ward rounds and 4 teaching ward rounds were performed, over 1,200 outpatient visits were received, 78 operations (gastrointestinal endoscopy and cystoscopy) were accomplished, of which 15 surgeries were performed by the local hospitals for the first time, 20 novel medical techniques were taught, 12 hospital-level lectures were conducted, 63 internal teaching and training sessions were organized within corresponding departments, theoretical guidance on hospital infection prevention and control was delivered in 44 departments, professional training was given for over 1,600 medical staff, and 10 refractory and complicated cases were discussed within the hospital and various departments. During the 2-week itinerant medical work in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People’s Hospital, the medical team completed 26 operations of various types, of which 10 were performed by the local hospital for the first time, which specifically included interventional coronary stent implantation, spondylolisthesis surgery, vertebroplasty, fenestration for lumbar disc herniation, minimally invasive surgery through the intermuscular space of thoracolumbar burst fracture, laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic high ligation of the varicocele.
To cater to different characteristics of three local hospitals, all team members utilized medical technique as the supporting point and regarded personnel training and experience sharing as the key points to unreservedly give full play to the role of teaching, assistance and guidance upon the technique, experience, concept and diagnosis and treatment of diseases to their counterparts in local hospitals, which effectively improved the professional and technical levels of medical staff from three local hospitals.
