On February 22, 2025, the kick-off meeting of Headache Prevention and Control System Quality Control in Northwest China was held in Land Port Division of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Multiple neurologists and hundreds of medical practitioners from Shaanxi, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Ningxia and Gansu attended the meeting.
Han Jianfeng, Vice President of FAH, delivered an opening speech. Professor Yu Shengyuan, Chairman of the meeting, delivered an online speech.
In the session of "Headache Center Construction Forum", Professor Luo Guogang from Department of Neurology of FAH introduced the current situation and blueprint of headache prevention and control in northwest China, and illustrated the core work to be carried out in the future based on Northwest Headache Prevention and Control Alliance. Professor Xiao Zheman from Wuhan University People's Hospital deeply interpreted the headache prevention and control base and quality control standards. Professor Jia Yi from Xi'an Gaoxin Hospital and Professor Cai Hongbin from Lanzhou University Second Hospital discussed relevant issues such as resource integration and talent training in the construction of headache centers, and clarified the key roles of medical institutions at all levels in this system.
During the "Headache Guidelines and Standards Forum", Professor Ji Yabin from Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University explicitly analyzed “Chinese Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Medication Overuse Headache (2024 edition)”. Professor Tan Ge from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University thoroughly illustrated the highlights of “Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Migraine in Acute Stage (2024 edition)”.
“Headache Treatment Progress Forum” focused on academic research and technological innovation. Professor Lei Qi from Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital shared the latest research progress in the relationship between migraine and stroke. Professor Cai Haiyan from People's Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region reviewed the development of migraine drugs and analyzed the evolution trend from symptomatic to targeted treatment strategies. Professor Zhang Yurong from FAH demonstrated clinical value of innovative targeted therapy for migraine in acute stage. In the afternoon, all participating experts were invited to visit the headache outpatient and ward in Department of Neurology of Land Port Division. During the session of case quality control, attending physician Wei Meng from FAH reported the development of headache sub-specialty of FAH and relevant work in the past year. Professor Ji Yabin from Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University and Professor Wan Dongjun from the 940th Hospital of Joint Logistics Support Force of Chinese People's Liberation Army conducted on-the-spot grading on randomly selected cases, and put forward suggestions for improving the standardization of diagnosis and treatment process and the integrity of data records. After the quality control session, two experts delivered in-depth discussion regarding the details of quality control standards with Professor Luo Guogang's team and further optimized the evaluation items, making them closer to clinical practice.
