On February 22, 2025, the case entitled “Practice of improving interdisciplinary rehabilitation efficiency for an elderly patient with HIE caused by severe pulmonary embolism”, jointly submitted by the nursing teams from Department of Critical Care Medicine and Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), received the top prize in the 1st case evaluation of Professional Committee of Elderly Rehabilitation Nursing of Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine.
This case was mainly charged and arranged by Nursing Department of FAH, and carefully prepared by the nursing teams from Department of Critical Care Medicine and Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. In the preparation stage, Ma Jiajia from Department of Critical Care Medicine led a team of more than 10 nursing professionals in the specialties of rehabilitation, airway, scientific research and humanities, and comprehensively reviewed and summarized the process of critical care treatment. Through in-depth communication with staff from Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, the team reviewed the whole treatment stages and carefully updated this case project.
This case was demonstrated by nurse Yin Chen from Department of Critical Care Medicine and nurse Liu Jing from Department of Rehabilitation Medicine on behalf of the team. They vividly showcased the pioneering practice of FAH in the field of rehabilitation nursing for elderly patients with severe illness. With the core concept of "treating severe illness and empowering rehabilitation", how to help an elderly HIE patient caused by severe pulmonary embolism to successfully achieve functional recovery and improve the quality of life through accurate functional evaluation system, personalized rehabilitation nursing protocol and multidisciplinary collaborative mechanism was explicitly illustrated in this case, which captivated widespread attention and in-depth discussion from all participating experts.
During the session of Respiratory Rehabilitation Workshop for the Elderly, nurse Yin Chen demonstrated the techniques of “chest percussion” and “effective cough technique”.
