National Medical Team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University has been working in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People's Hospital in Yunnan province for a week. All team members have enthusiastically devoted themselves to the intense and pleasant medical and teaching activities, receiving high appraisal by the local staff and patients. Each team member not only possesses a solid theoretical foundation and high-level medical technique, but also expresses a strong sense of teaching and holds great patience and meticulous attitudes towards all patients. The work contents carried out by each team member over the past week were summarized as follows.
Wang Yanni, Chief Physician of Department of Cardiology delivered 5 ward rounds, received 40 outpatients, gave 1 lecture for physicians from Department of Cardiology, and assisted the Department of Cardiology to establish Chest Pain Center in this county. Fang Jing, Chief Physician of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology completed 4 ward rounds, received 62 outpatients, gave 3 lectures in the department and performed 1 case of laparoscopic ectopic pregnancy. Chief Technician Li Baozhen from Infection Control Office gave 3 lectures in the department, provided guidance on the infection control work in 5 primary hospitals in the county and offered teaching and education on infection control in hospital for 36 medical staff from 29 key departments. Sun Yining, Deputy Chief Physician of Rheumatology Department delivered 4 ward rounds, received 16 outpatients and gave 1 lecture in the department. Wang Yi, Deputy Chief Physician of Endocrinology Department made 5 ward rounds, consulted 35 outpatients and gave 2 lectures in the department, one of which was a cross-department lecture, and launched a novel medical technology "Application of thyroid puncture in treatment of thyroid cyst". Li Xinyou, Deputy Chief Physician of Orthopedics Department, conducted 5 ward rounds, received 80 outpatients, assisted or guided 5 operations, and gave 3 lectures in Department of Trauma Surgery. Yin Yan, Deputy Chief Physician of Department of Digestive Medicine, completed 6 ward rounds, received 20 outpatients, provided guidance on 13 cases of gastrointestinal endoscopic operations, and gave 1 lecture in the department. Zhu Guodong, Deputy Chief Physician of Urology Department, made 5 ward rounds, received 20 outpatients, completed 1 operation as the chief surgeon, and delivered 2 lectures in Department of General Surgery. In addition, each team member completed a lecture within the hospital.
After 1-week medical work, all members of the medical team left for Deqin County People's Hospital at an average altitude of 4270.2 meters. In the coming week, the team members will make persistent efforts to overcome the altitude sickness, utilize professional expertise and gear up to serve the compatriots of ethnic minorities living in the border areas of our motherland.
