President Shi Bingyin of our hospital leads a delegation for an inspection visit to Kenya

According to the results achieved during Kenya-China Business Forum held in April this year, at the invitation of the government of the Republic of Kenya, Shi Bingyin, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University, Professor Lu Xin, Global Health Advisor of National School of Development of Peking University, Wang Maode, Vice President of our hospital, Professor Qian Buyue, Chief Scientist of Internet and Information Department, Ren Hui, Deputy Director of International Exchange Office and relevant scholars delivered an inspection visit to Kenya for discussing the exchange and cooperation in the field of healthcare and medicine between Kenya and China from May 21 to 24.

On May 21, the delegation arrived in Nairobi, capital of Kenya and visited Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kenya. Counsellor Guo Ce introduced the current development status and medical environment in Kenya to all delegates. On May 22, the delegation paid a special visit to Huawei Kenya to learn about electronic communication and network construction. Subsequently, the delegation visited Pharm Access Foundation to have deep understanding of the current status of drugs in Kenya and to explore cooperation in the field of drugs.

 On May 23, the delegation held an informal discussion with Kenya Association of Physicians to learn more about the current medical situation in Kenya. Director of the association stated that the medical foundation of Kenya is quite weak, eager to receive assistance and support from Chinese counterparts. Subsequently, bilateral sides delivered in-depth exchanges on the challenges existing in the medical and healthcare sectors of both countries, such as chronic disease management, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, training of medical talent, construction of network informationization in a modern hospital,etc. Besides, both sides jointly discussed feasible solutions according to respective situations. Director of Kenya Department of Trade and Industry also introduced the construction of basic medical facilities in Kenya. On the afternoon of May 23, the delegation visited Kenyatta University Hospital, the largest public general hospital in Kenya, which is aided by the loans from China. Dr. John Tole, provisional director of Kenyatta University Hospital, and Dr. Francis Muraya, Economic Advisor of Kenya President, led the delegation to visit the wards, operating room and other departments and introduced the large medical equipment currently available in the hospital. During the meeting, the Kenyan side explicitly introduced the current preparations of the hospital and the key unresolved problems to the delegation, hoping to extend further exchange and cooperation with our hospital on telemedicine and talent training,etc.

 

On the morning of May 24, "Sino-Kenya Digital Medicine Cooperation Seminar" was held in Nairobi. On the Kenyan side, Dr. Moses M. Ikiara, General Manager of Kenya Investment Authority, Marry Kendi, Representative of Food and Drug Administration of Kenya, Marry Anne, Representative of Nairobi National Hospital, Dr. Betty M. Gikohyo, CEO of Kevin Hospital, the Chinese delegation as well as the staff from the medicine, healthcare and investment sectors of two countries attended the seminar. Bilateral sides delivered in-depth exchanges and discussions on digital medicine. At the seminar, President Shi Bingyin introduced the history and current development of our hospital to all the delegates attending the seminar, highlighting the advanced and characteristic disciplines covering cardiovascular diseases, endocrine diseases, tumor treatment and organ transplantation,etc. He especially illustrated the education for international students and international cooperation projects. Professor Qian Buyue, Chief Scientist of our hospital, introduced the telemedicine project-Smart Hospital. Kenyan counterparts were highly interested in the characteristic disciplines and telemedicine services.

In the afternoon, Rashid, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Health of Kenya received the delegation. Bilateral sides expected to grasp the valuable opportunity of the “Belt and Road Initiative”, General Secretary of China, to extend all-round collaboration among medical and healthcare institutions, jointly build the “Belt and Road” and a shared future for mankind and protect the health of peoples of the two countries.
