CSCCP-ASCCP Sino-US Colposcopy Training Course held in Xi'an

From October 29 to 31, 2024, "Training Course of Prevention and Treatment of Cervical Cancer in New Era" was held in Xi'an, which was hosted by Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Chinese Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (CSCCP) of China Healthy Birth Science Association and Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology Branch of Shaanxi Sexology Association (SN-SCCP). Professor Wei Lihui from Peking University People's Hospital, Chairman of CSCCP, Professor Michael A. Gold from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Oklahoma University, former president of American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP), Professor Zhao Chengquan from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (online), and multiple senior experts of colposcopy and cervical pathology from CSCCP were invited to jointly deliver the training course. A total of 14 trainees attended the 3-day training course. This is the first CSCCP-ASCCP Sino-US colposcopy training course held in Northwest China.

On the morning of October 29, Professor Wei Lihui delivered a lecture on progress in cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine. Subsequently, physician Chen Miao and nurse Chen Fangzhen from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of FAH conducted the demonstration of 4 cases of colposcopy procedures. Physician Gao Li demonstrated 4 cases of LEEP, explicitly illustrating operational skills, details and key points, and how to communicate with patients and sharing their clinical experience. In the afternoon, Professor Michael A. Gold contributed an intriguing lecture entitled “Identification of normal transformation zone under colposcopy”.

Physician Chen Miao and Nurse Xie Qi carried out the demonstration of physical therapy for two cases of vulval and vaginal diseases. Subsequently, the trainees were required to practice in groups.

The next day, Professor Michael A. Gold continued to give a lecture entitled “Interpretation of colposcopic images of low-grade lesions, high-grade lesions and cervical cancer”. Subsequently, Professor Zhao Chengquan gave an online lecture entitled "Challenges of screening and diagnosis of cervical adenopathy".

Professor An Ruifang from FAH gave a lecture entitled “Clinical relationship and prevention of reproductive tract infection and cervical lesions”. Professor Sui Yanxia from Department of Pathology of FAH gave a lecture entitled "Dialogue between pathologists and clinicians in cervical lesions". Professor You Ke from Peking University Third Hospital shared clinical experience in the treatment of large-scale vaginal wall lesions via an online lecture. Physician Chen Miao explained the standardized operation of colposcopy. Physician Gao Li illustrated the treatment of cervical cone positive margins. Professor Yang Xiaofeng contributed a lecture entitled “Cervical precancerous lesions and post-treatment follow-up for cervical cancer”. Subsequently, all participants conducted case consultations and discussions.

On the third day, the results of colposcopy and pathological examination of LEEP cases obtained on the first day were collected and discussed. Physician Gao Li and physician Chen Miao reported the cases and put forward their viewpoints and questions. Professor Michael A. Gold, Professor Zhao Chengquan, Professor Li Mingzhu from Peking University People's Hospital (online) and Professor Yang Xiaofeng were invited to participate in case discussion, and analyze basic and extended problems of subsequent treatment of these cases.

Finally, all 14 trainees were qualified after passing the examination. Professor Michael A. Gold and Professor Yang Xiaofeng presented the qualification certificates to all trainees.
