On October 19, 2024, the in-person finals of North China CRRT Excellence Skills Demonstration Competition 2024 concluded in Beijing. The competition was hosted by Nursing Branch of Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association. After online preliminary competition, 30 stood out and advanced into the in-person finals among 131 contestants from 16 provinces and autonomous regions in North China. Two nurses, Xu Chao and Li Yadong, from ICU of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), grabbed the first prize in the in-person finals.

The in-person finals are divided into practical operation in the first session and professional knowledge contest in the second session. The practical operation session is assigned into A and B groups, with 15 contestants in each group. In group A, PRE-POST CVVH mode was chosen and CVVHDF mode was adopted in group B, requiring the contestants to complete CRRT pipeline installation, pipeline pre-flushing, parameter setting and simulated computer operation. Three rounds of competitions were conducted in each group. Finally, 6 contestants stood out from each group and advanced into the second session of professional knowledge contest. After intense competition, Li Yadong from group A and Xu Chao from group B received the first place in practical operation, and successfully advanced into the professional knowledge contest. In this session, a question pool was established according to the guidelines, expert consensus, best evidence and alarm disposal related to severe blood purification in recent three years. After several rounds of competitions of required questions, quick questions and statement questions, clinical thinking, theoretical level and comprehensive ability of each contestant were comprehensively evaluated. With calmness, intimate cooperation, solid knowledge background and agile adaptability, two contestants from FAH topped on the ranking list and grabbed the first prize in the finals.

Nurses Xu Chao and Li Yadong outshone in the finals, and showcased professional levels of the nursing team from ICU in FAH to colleagues and peers from North China. FAH will take this opportunity to further improve professional skills, standardize CRRT operational process and strengthen the full-course quality control, aiming to apply excellent skills into clinical practice, deeply explore and apply advanced technologies such as CRRT and continuously strengthen treatment capability for critically ill patients admitted to FAH.
