On the morning of April 1, Professor Kam W Leong, Member of National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of National Academy of Inventors, Editor-in-Chief of Biomaterials from Department of Biomedical Engineering of Columbia University visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Professor Leong held talks with the leaders of our hospital, delivered academic exchanges and visited the laboratories of our hospital.

At 9 a.m., the meeting was held in No. 1 Meeting Room of the Administration Building. President Shi Bingyin introduced the rapid development and achievements of our hospital in recent years, highlighting the blueprints of hospital construction planning, talent training, policy support, scientific research cooperation and other fields. Professor Leong expected to establish in-depth cooperation with our hospital in the future.

Subsequently, Professor Leong visited Benjamin Laboratory, Biobank, Translational Medicine Center, History Gallery and the entire hospital to fully understand the basic situations including hardware and equipment, scientific research investment and humanistic atmosphere, etc.

In the afternoon, Professor Kam W Leong delivered an academic lecture entitled “Design of Therapeutics Biomaterials for Inflammatory Modulation”, explicitly illustrating the effect of nanotechnology applied in clinical treatment of diseases and demonstrating the most advanced nanotechnology worldwide. The participants also delivered heated discussions on relevant issues.

Professor Kam W Leong has been devoted to the research of biomedical materials for a long time and has achieved accomplishments in the fields of gene, protein and immunity. His visit deepens mutual understanding between bilateral sides and provides novel ideas for the scientific research and development of our hospital in the future.
