On the afternoon of January 17, 2019, the MDT team of Cancer Center conducted MDT discussion for a 44-year-old male patient from Haidong District of Qinghai Province, setting a new record for joint consultation among 11 departments.
The patient was diagnosed with advanced renal carcinoma invading the surrounding liver tissues, complicated with tumor thrombus in the renal vein and inferior vena cava. The tumor thrombus was adjacent to the plane of the second portahepatis. Besides, the patient presented with poor general conditions, complicated with anemia and infectious symptoms. Surgery might significantly affect his quality of life with a high risk of perioperative complications and postoperative recurrence.
Under the guidance of Director Deng Huaici and Secretary Guo Hui of Cancer Center, Professor Zhang Yue from Urology Department invited the experts from 11 departments including Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Department of Peripheral Vessel, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Surgical ICU, Oncology Department, Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Hematology Department, Infection Department, Department of Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, to deliver MDT discussion and consultation according to the severity of disease, and eventually determined a scientific and standardized surgical plan for this patient. Through intimate MDT cooperation and rational implementation of different approaches, the surgical safety, quality of life and survival time of this complicated case were significantly enhanced to the greatest extent. Cancer Center will be responsible for the management throughout the entire process of diagnosis and treatment to maximize the clinical benefits to this patient.

As the first normalized MDT diagnosis and treatment center for malignant tumors in northwest China, Cancer Center of our hospital has united over 30 departments to accomplish more than 20 rounds of MDT consultation for patients with malignant tumors, mastitis, undetermined fever, abdominal pain and jaundice, aiming to deliver normalized MDT consultation during the initial onsetand maximize the clinical benefits to the patients.
