On January 11, 2019, the awarding ceremony for 2018 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Medical Association was successfully held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The President, Vice President of the Chinese Medical Association, members of the 25thCouncil of the Chinese Medical Association, chairman of each specialty society, Secretary General of the Chinese Medical Association and award winners were invited to attend the conference. The team led by Professor Lv Yi from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor Xu Feng from School of Life Science and Technologyof Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor Zheng Yanzhen from the Frontier Institute of Science and Technology of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Zhang Xin, Research Fellow from High Magnetic Field Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were conferred the First Prize of 2018 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award for their completion of the joint project entitled "Serial Researches on Application of Strong Magnetic Biological Effect of Rare Earth NdFeB in Innovative Repair and Reconstruction of Digestive Surgery ". This is the first time that the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University won this prize.
With the financial supports of the Key and Surface Projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and the projects at the provincial and ministerial levels, the staff of this project integrated medical sciences with engineering sciences, profoundly evaluated the strong magnetic biomechanics and tissue effects of rare earth NdFeB and innovatively manufactured a safe and specific anastomotic instrument, which revolutionized the repair and reconstruction modes in the surgical management of complicated and refractory digestive tract diseases and produced a series of pioneering research achievements at home and abroad. Global experts have recognized and evaluated these accomplishments as highly original, advantageous in clinical application and even irreplaceable in the treatment of certain diseases, which plays a significant role in promoting the application of minimally invasive treatment and realizing the rapid recovery from surgery.
The Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award is the most authoritative award in the medical health industry throughout the country. Since its launch in 2001, a total of 1,458 medical research projects have been awarded. In the 2018 conference, 89 from 237 projects eligible for formal examination were awarded. After professional and comprehensive assessment, merely 8 projects were awarded the First Prize.
