From November 30 to December 2, 2018, the 3rdPLAGH-MIT Critical Datathon, organized by Chinese PLA General Hospital and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), was held, where a team led by the Clinical Research Center and Professor Wang Xue of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (the Hospital) participated in the event.
On the first day of the event, many domestic and foreign experts and scholars from the team of Laboratory for Computational Physiology of MIT, Harvard Medical School, National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University, Chinese PLA General Hospital, etc. made wonderful reports on medical big data, artificial intelligence, database building etc. Moreover, the Datathon project practice activities were carried out on the second and third day of the conference, attracting a total of 19 interdisciplinary teams of more than 200 people to participate. These participants started from the topic selection, and then, made the plan, extracted the data, analyzed and processed the data until they made the conclusion and tentative applications, and finished the entire work at 3 pm on the third day. The project reports were prepared then. The Chinese and foreign experts conducted on-site scoring and selected 6 excellent teams: one for first prize, two for second prize and three for third prize. Meanwhile, the team of the Hospital won the third prize. The two-day event was intense, exciting and brilliant, and each participant was with high engagement and abundant harvest. All participants experienced beneficial training and growth.
Although it is the first time that the Hospital organizes a team to participate in the event, it has made outstanding achievements of winning the third prize in the competition of numerous excellent rivals. It is a testament to the powerful overall strength of clinical research of the Hospital, and displays the image of the Hospital. The Clinical Research Center of the Hospital keeps pace with the times, focuses on the development of big data-related clinical research projects, thus laying a solid foundation for this award.
