From November 25 to 26, 2023, Department of Blood Transfusion of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) successfully passed the re-assessment of ISO15189 Medical Laboratory Standard ISO15189 Accreditation after two-day on-the-spot inspection by the expert group from China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS). The assessment experts are Director Song Zhirong from Tianjin People's Hospital, and Gao Wei, Director of Department of Blood Transfusion of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
On the morning of November 25, the first ISO15189 re-assessment meeting was held. Vice President Ma Xiancang, heads of Medical Department, Department of Network and Information, Department of General Affairs, Outpatient Department and other relevant departments attended the meeting. Director Song Zhirong, leader of the re-assessment team, introduced the assessment process, read out CNAS policies and emphasized the assessment principles. On behalf of the FAH, Vice President Ma Xiancang delivered a speech, emphasizing that ISO15189 assessment is of significance for enhancing the work quality of Department of Blood Transfusion in our hospital, and required the department to humbly accept the assessment opinions and suggestions, and relevant departments should actively cooperate with Department of Blood Transfusion to resolve the problems. Director Wang Baoyan briefly reported the operation and persistent improvement of ISO15189 system and discipline construction in Department of Blood Transfusion.During the on-the-spot inspection, the experts delivered an explicit inspection of document management elements, technical elements and all elements involved in ISO15189 of blood transfusion laboratory system, supervised the collection process of matched blood samples and inspected the transportation of blood samples in Department of Hematology and Department of Nephrology, and held a meeting with medical staff in departments using clinical blood samples to evaluate the capability of Department of Blood Transfusion to provide service guarantee and service quality for relevant clinical departments.
On November 26, two experts assessed the process and information construction of medical laboratory of Department of Blood Transfusion, made a summary and listed all nonconformities. Subsequently, relevant staff were organized to hold the final meeting of ISO15189 re-assessment. At the meeting, Director Song Zhirong delivered a summary report, highly recognized the establishment of ISO15189 system documents, effective operation and management of medical laboratory, technical capability and support for clinical departments, and provided suggestions for the nonconformities in the operation of ISO15189 system in Department of Blood Transfusion. On behalf of our hospital, Vice President Han Jianfeng stated that the department would explore the rooted reasons, actively make corrections and improve clinical service ability.
Finally, Song Zhirong announced that Department of Blood Transfusion of our hospital successfully passed the re-assessment of Medical Laboratory ISO15189 Accreditation by CNAS.
In July 2021, Department of Blood Transfusion of our hospital passed preliminary assessment and approval of Medical Laboratory ISO15189 Accreditation, and obtained the certificate of Medical Laboratory ISO15189 Accreditation issued by CNAS on November 2, 2021. It is the first blood transfusion laboratory accredited by Medical Laboratory ISO15189 Accreditation issued by CNAS in northwest China.
