On October 12-14, He Cijiang, Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology Major and Director of Nephrology Department of Affiliated Hospital of Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York City), and the Chairman of the Bronx Hemodialysis Center, visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University for academic exchange.
Prof. He, an expert in the “pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy”, “pathogenesis of HIV-associated nephropathy”, etc., is supported by many funds of NIH and VA, and has published more than 120 articles in top medical journals including Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Kidney International.
On the afternoon of October 12, in the lecture hosted by Lu Wanhong, Deputy Director of Nephrology Department, Prof. He gave a wonderful lecture on the topic of Markers for Development of Diabetic Nephropathy, which detailed the important biomarkers of diabetes developing into diabetic nephropathy and then renal failure, and not only compared traditional markers such as proteinuria and glomerular filtration rate, but also introduced the value of some new diagnostic markers in predicting the occurrence and development of diabetic nephropathy. What’s more, this lecture had greatly broadened the understanding on clinical diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy. Moreover, Prof. He put forward his own unique insights in the diagnosis of a difficult case recently reported by the physician of our Nephrology Department, and gave valuable suggestions on the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up visit of terminally ill patients.
The doctors and students who participated in the academic exchange expressed that they had benefited a lot.
