On September 29, 2023, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, Xie Xinfang, a young physician from Department of Nephrology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was invited to give a presentation entitled New Insight into Poly-IgA1 Formation-Two Potential Therapies at the 17th International Symposium on IgA Nephropathy in Tokyo, Japan. Due to cutting-edge research and innovative achievements in the field of IgA nephropathy, Xie Xinfang received the honorary title of Future Hope Star of Nephropathy at the 17th International Symposium on IgA Nephropathy, becoming one of the four young researchers worldwide receiving this honorary title.
Xie Xinfang has been devoted to relevant research in IgA nephropathy for years, and innovatively constructed a chimera of IgA protease AK183 and IgG1-Fc fragment, which can persistently remove IgA in the circulation system and chronic IgA deposition in the glomerulus. From the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy, gut microbiota to molecular targeted therapy, she has created remarkable and innovative scientific research achievements at home and abroad.
Xie Xinfang obtained bachelor degree in Clinical Medicine in XJTU, and then obtained doctoral degree in Internal Medicine (Nephropathy) in Peking University. During her doctoral research, she published a qualified research article in The Lancet as the first author. In 2017, Xie Xinfang worked in Department of Nephrology of the FAH of XJTU, and she was committed to basic and clinical research of IgA nephropathy, and spared no effort to catch up with cutting-edge research. Xie Xinfang spent all spare time in carrying out experiment in the laboratory, reading frontier journals in the field of nephrology and mastering the latest academic trends. After work, she constantly conducted experiment independently overnight. On weekends or during holidays, she even contacted and performed experiment in laboratories with eligible conditions in Beijing. After rounds of hypothesis, validation and re-validation, Xie Xinfang encountered repeated failures, whereas she maintained her passion and enthusiasm for medicine and the pursuit of truth. Under heavy burden of clinical work, Xie Xinfang could still publish articles in SCI-indexed journals with high impact factor every year. She constantly resolved scientific research problems, aiming to ascend the peak in medicine.
