Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has integrated continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), Internet medical care and smart management for diabetes mellitus into clinical practice, and constructed a novel management model for diabetes mellitus with real-time interaction among physicians, nurses and patients and multi-dimensional overall management. After 9-month trial operation, the first Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus in northwest China is formally launched.

On the morning of June 21, 2023, the opening ceremony of the first Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus in northwest China was held in the Outpatient Building of East Branch (Yanliang district) of FAH. Wang Jiangxia, Deputy Director of Yanliang District Health Bureau, was invited to attend the opening ceremony. Zou Yuliang, Executive President of East Branch, Vice President Wu Dapeng, Professor Shi Bingyin, disciplinary leader of Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and heads of different departments of East Branch also attended the opening ceremony.

Deputy Director Wang Jiangxia delivered a speech. Executive President Zou Yuliang highly recognized that Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism has actively caught up with new technologies to drive discipline development, improved the management level for diabetes mellitus through CGM smart outpatient, and enhanced medical efficiency and patients' medical experience.

Professor Shi Bingyin highlighted in his speech that East Branch has obtained outstanding achievements in disciplinary construction, medical quality improvement and medical safety, etc. After the establishment of CGM Smart Ward for Diabetes Mellitus, Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism launched Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus in East Branch, hoping that the FAH can play a leading role in the management of diabetes mellitus and chronic diseases in the northwest and even the whole country.

After the opening ceremony, Deputy Director Qiang Wei led all colleagues to visit Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus, and explicitly introduced and demonstrated the process of smart glucose management. The precise, efficient and convenient features of this process received widespread recognition. After the visit, the session of academic lecture was held. Deputy Director Qiang Wei introduced the mode of Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus. Professor Fan Liya shared the cases of Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus. Head Nurse Li Meng illustrated Smart Outpatient for Diabetes Mellitus from the nursing perspective.
