From June 17 to 18, 2023, "Training Meeting of Improving Diagnosis and Treatment Capability for Rare Diseases in Western China 2023", jointly hosted by China Alliance for Rare Diseases, Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was held in Xi 'an. The training meeting aims to spread the knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases, improve the capability of medical staff in Shaanxi province and identify diagnose and treat early rare diseases via professional training and case discussion.

Huang Bin, Inspector of Hospital Administration Bureau of Health Commission of Shaanxi Province, Professor Shi Bingyin, an expert representative of rare diseases in FAH, Li Hongxia, Director of Medical Department, Hu Tingting, Deputy Director of Medical Policy Office, Professor Zhu Huijuan from Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the administration team of rare diseases, and multiple clinical experts from Collaboration Network for Diagnosis and Treatment of Rare Diseases of Shaanxi Province attended the meeting. Medical staff from over 30 hospitals in Xi 'an actively participated in the training meeting in-person, and medical staff from other cities in Shaanxi province attended the training online.
Huang Bin delivered a speech, hoping to strengthen all-round cooperation among different specialties from diagnosis and treatment to research of rare diseases through this training session and familiarize with these rare diseases.

Professor Shi Bingyin highlighted in his speech that it is a breakthrough to improve medical staff's cognition and standardized diagnosis and treatment capability for rare diseases. The FAH of XJTU, as the leading affiliation of Northwest Collaboration Group for Rare Disease of China Alliance for Rare Diseases and Collaboration Network for Diagnosis and Treatment of Rare Diseases of Shaanxi Province, plays the role of regional leader and pioneer and promotes development of "medicine, teaching and research" of rare diseases in a comprehensive manner.

Subsequently, Chen Yuxin from Medical Policy Office of Medical Department, shared the work experience of rare diseases in FAH. Professor Guo Jian, Professor Zhang Dingding, Professor Chen Jingdan and Professor Xie Jing from the management team of rare diseases in Peking Union Medical College Hospital delivered the speeches entitled Construction of the diagnosis, treatment and research system for rare diseases in China, Registry of rare diseases in five northwest provinces, Central government special lottery public welfare fund project and Construction of medical quality control system for rare diseases, respectively.






This training meeting consists of three special sessions: rare neuroendocrine diseases, rare heart and kidney diseases and rare respiratory and pediatric diseases. Oriented by clinical practice, this training meeting focuses on treatable rare diseases, aiming to improve clinicians' diagnosis and treatment thinking through case sharing and discussing.
