Sponsored by Health Science Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University and organized by the First Affiliated Hospital, the 1st International Congress of Magnetic Surgery (ICMS-2018) had been grandly held in Xi'an from June 1 to 3, 2018. The theme of the conference was “Powerful Magnet & Smart Surgery, Application of Magnetic Materials in Surgery”. More than a hundred experts and scholars from the United States, Germany, South Korea, Czech, Ukraine, Turkey, Argentina and China engaged in magnetic surgery gathered to discuss the development status of magnetic surgery, explore the study system of magnetic surgery, draw the clinical practice of magnetic surgery, and plot the development of magnetic surgery.
On June 1, the “Discussion of Complicated Clinical Cases” and the press conference of Double-edged Sword of Magnets–“How to Train Magnets” of Surgical Dream Workshop were held by theHerpetological Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital. At the same time, the participants discussed the cases of magnetic squeezed biliary dredging and magnetic squeezed bilioenteric anastomosis by Professor Lyu Yi's team, and presented their views on the selection of cases and the design of magnetic devices. At the press conference, Dr. Liu Shiqi and Yan Xiaopeng introduced the advantages and disadvantages of magnets through specific cases. The Surgical Dream Workshop has invented a number of international initiate magnetic squeezed digestive tract and vascular anastomosis reconstruction device, showing great advantages and bright prospects in the minimally invasive, reducing the difficulty of operation, shortening the operation time, and solving the complicated clinical cases.
On June 2, the opening ceremony and special academic report of the conference were held in the hospital. The leaders of the Xi'an Jiaotong University and our hospital came to the conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wu Rongqian from Surgical Dream Workshop.
Professor Lyu Yi, Chairman of the conference, Assistant to the President of Xi'an Jiaotong University and Academic Leader of magnetic surgery, first made a speech on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 1st International Conference of Magnetic Surgery. He pointed out that the 1st International Conference of Magnetic Surgery initially held by our hospital aimed to provide an exchange platform for researchers engaged in magnetic surgery worldwide, and to discuss the problems in clinical medicine, materials, biomedical engineering and mechanical processing included in the field of magnetic surgery. In addition, the conference would be expected to form the “Xi'an Consensus” of magnetic surgery, to unify the relevant names, definitions, application specifications and so on, and to plan the publication of the “magnetic surgery" monograph.
Professor Michael Harrison from the University of California, United States, the Co-Chairman of the conference, the world famous surgical expert, and also an active promoter and practitioner of the magnetic squeeze anastomosis, expressed his congratulation to the success of the conference through a video broadcast from abroad, and also recognized the achievements made by Xi'an Jiaotong University in the field of magnetic surgery. He hoped that through such conference, the experts and researchers in magnetic surgery from all over the world could fully communicate and promote the rapid development of magnetic surgery.
Shi Bingyin, President of our hospital, expressed his sincere congratulation to the conference on behalf of the hospital. He said that in the future, the hospital should continue to promote the development of cross-study on medicine and industry, promote the clinical application transformation of various scientific achievements, solve clinical problems, conduct accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for medical innovation and diseases, and make new and greater contribution.
Yan Hong, Vice President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, made an important speech on behalf of the school and the Health Science Center. He hoped that the Surgical Dream Workshop led by Professor Lyu Yi would continue to work hard to seize the academic heights of the magnetic surgery and make greater contributions to ordinary patients and the development of the school. At the same time, he also hoped that through this conference, a worldwide circle of friends from magnetic surgery would be formed, and everyone would work together to contribute to the development of world medicine, especially in surgery.
Soon afterwards, Professor Dong Ki Lee from Yonsei University, South Korea, Professor Mario Zaritzky from Medical College of University of Chicago, US, Dr. Claire Elizabeth Graves from Columbia University Medical Center, Professor Vitaliy Zablotskii from the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Dr. LuziaToselli from Private Children's Hospital of Argentina Foundation Hospital, Professor Ibrahim Uygun from Dicle University of Turkey, Dr. Tim Helge Fass from University College Cork in Germany, and Professor Zheng Li from Chinese University of Hong Kong respectively made a series of outstanding reports involving the application of magnetic squeezing in benign bile duct stricture, esophagus atresia and coloproctia, new choice of magnetic cell surgery, magnetic handling apparatus and magnetic surgery operation, San Francisco experience in magnetic anastomosis, as well as the applications of intelligent magnetism and magnetic anchoring endoscopy for new operation in thoracic and abdominal surgery. Professor Zhang Xin, from Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Shi Yuan from Tianjian First Center Hospital respectively reported the biological effects of the static magnetic field and the new magnetic anastomosis ring- a potential substitute for the anastomat in colorectal operation.
As a sponsor, experts and scholars from Xi'an Jiaotong University also made rich reports to the conference. Professor Liu Yaxiong from the School of Mechanical Engineering reported the biomechanics of the magnetic squeezed digestive tract and the structural analysis of the anastomat. Professor Lyu Yi, Professor Liu Xuemin, Professor Wang Bo, and Dr. Li Yu respectively reported the application of magnetic surgery system, biliary intestinal anastomosis,the vascular magnetic anastomosis in liver transplantation, and magnetic compression anastomosis in the benign stricture of biliary tract, which were recognized unanimously by the participants. In the end, the symposium on “Consensus & Agreement” was held, including “an expert consensus on the magnetic surgery system”, “discussion about the finalization ofMagnetic Surgery” and the “Signing Ceremony of Academic and Technical Cooperation Agreement on Related Technologies of Magnetic Surgery”.
The 1st International Conference of Magnetic Surgery will help scholars and experts from all over the world to expand international exchanges and cooperation study, share the study achievements in magnetic materials and magnetic surgery, build bridges and ties of academic exchanges between the China and foreign countries in magnetic surgery, and contribute wisdom and strength to the well-being of a healthy China!
