On March 7, 2023, Department of Health Science of National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC)organized an on-site acceptance meeting of National Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and conducted an on-site inspection of the project led by Professor Lyu Yi of our hospital, which was entitled Research and manufacture of ERCP combined with high-voltage pulsed electric field minimally invasive precision treatment workstation for hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. Gu Ruisheng, Deputy Director of Department of Health Science ofNSFC, heads and expert panel from eight departments including Department of Finance and Department of Health Science, Rong Mingzhe, Executive Deputy Secretary of Communist Party Committee of XJTU, heads of Institute of Scientific Research, Health Science Center and Department of Scientific Research, and members of the project team attended the meeting.

Rong Mingzhe delivered a speech on behalf of XJTU. Wang Kun, Deputy Director of Department of Finance, introduced the financial management policies and relevant regulations ofNSFC, and interpreted new policies on the management of scientific research funding.
Gu Ruisheng proposed that the research and manufacture of scientific research instruments should focus on the target and resolve the bottleneck and final-shot issues in China. In the acceptance meeting, the expert panel delivered strict control of the project, carefully reviewed the major scientific research instruments developed by the R&D team, and conducted comprehensive assessment of the work of the research team.

Professor Lyu Yi, as the project head, reported the completion progress of this project. Subsequently, heads and expert panel fromNSFCconducted an on-site assessment, tested the technical parameters, checked the research and manufacture of key parts of the instruments, verified running status of the prototype and on-site demonstration, and delivered exchange and discussion with the technical R&D team of the project.
Subsequently, heads and expert panel fromNSFCpaid a visit to the ERCP operating room and observed the demonstration of clinical translation of endoscopic pulsed electric field ablation technology through this project.

After on-site assessment, the expert panel announced that the research content of this project entitled Research and manufacture of ERCP combined with high-voltage pulsed electric field minimally invasive precision treatment workstation for hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors has been completed, ERCP combined with high-voltage pulsed electric field minimally invasive precision treatment workstation for hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors has been successfully manufactured, main instrument and related components have been installed and adjusted, and the instrument is running normally. The cell survival model and database of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumor cell line have been established under the action of high-voltage pulsed electric field, and the feasibility of ERCP combined with high-voltage pulsed electric field has been assessed in the treatment of unresectable hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. The technical parameters met the requirements of the planning document.
