On December 3, 2016, the robot-assisted surgery team of Professor Zou Yuliang of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University was invited to participate in national gynecological robotic surgery video competition held in Xijing Hospital, and they won the third prize. The number and quality of gynecologic malignant tumor robot-assisted surgery performed by Obstetrics and Gynecology Department were appreciated by the national experts attending the conference.

Since March 9, 2016, 36 robot-assisted surgeries have been successfully completed in the department. Since the first gynecologic malignant tumor robot-assisted surgery in September 2016, 26 major surgeries have been operated by the robot-assisted surgery team of Professor Zou Yuliang and Associate Professor Bao Lijun, including 15 radical hysterectomies of IA-IB1 phase, 4 staging surgeries of phase 1 endometrial cancer, 4 phase IB2 and IIA2 cervical cancer surgeries with relatively large local lesion and 1 stump cervical cancer with relatively high difficulty. The average time for each surgery is 2.5 hours and surgeries are successful. Among the 26 surgeries, average bleeding volume is about 50ml-100ml without operative complications. With light postoperative pain and fast recovery, patients can get up and move around 24 hours after surgery. The gastrointestinal function recovers 12-48 hours after the surgery and diet becomes normal 72 hours after the surgery with clinic treatment stopped.

Up to now, 59 Da Vinci robot-assisted surgery systems have been installed, including 4 systems in the northwest. After the introduction of Da Vinci robot-assisted surgery system in March 2016, the number of surgeries made by the system increases month by month and the academic influence becomes larger and larger nationwide. In November 2016, the number of surgeries ranks the 10th nationwide and the number of surgeries made by single machine is higher with good reputation in national counterparts.
