On November 20, the finals of the 8th 2022 Elite Competition for Thoracoscopic Surgery in Greater China (Northwest region) was held in Xi 'an. This competition is highly recognized by domestic scholars for rigorous assessment and fair competition system, which is an influential competition for thoracoscopic surgery. This year, the event was hosted by Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). A total of 20 top-notched experts in the field of thoracic surgery from central and northwest regions were invited to assess the performance of contestants. Twelve outstanding thoracic surgeons from hospitals in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Gansu province, Qinghai province, Xi'an, Baoji and other places squeezed into the finals. All participants were divided into the lung lobe, lung segment and esophagus groups. The contestants should interpret surgical procedures without showing faces and with processed voice, which guarantees the fairness and professionalism of this competition and imposes demanding requirement on the works and comments from each participant. After intense competition, Physician Jia Zhuoqi from Department of Thoracic Surgery in our hospital received widespread recognition from the judges and grabbed the first prize in the esophagus group for his surgical expertise, solid surgical skills and abundant surgical experience, exquisite video clips and vivid explanation. He finally advanced into the finals of West China Competition (Southwest and northwest regions).

Under the leadership of Professor Fu Junke, the academic leader, and Professor Zhang Guangjian, Director of Department of Thoracic Surgery, the department adheres to rigorous academic attitude, pursuit of technical excellence, standardized surgical procedures and individualized diagnosis and treatment, catches up with the latest academic progress on thoracic surgery and strives to create innovations and breakthroughs, aiming to provide satisfactory medical services to all patients. The young surgeon team showcases excellent performance in this competition, fully demonstrating the team's advanced technical level and training mode in Chinaand providing a broad platform for the growth of young and middle-aged physicians. In the future, the team will forge ahead to make progress, strengthen the construction of different levels of talents, and cultivate outstanding talents in the field of thoracic surgery.
